I’m crazy for compotes too…

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012

Earlier last week Martha Stewart Bride’s Guide posted a “Crazy for Compotes” blog post. Well, I’m crazy for compotes too. So crazy that I have created compote designs for 80% of my wedding clients this year, social and a few corporate ones too. Compotes elevate a floral design and it’s a great way to use cut glass, milk glass, grandma’s vintage pieces and maybe a few plastic pieces too that look like the real ceramic.

Here are a few of my favorite designs that will be making a debut at a wedding this summer and fall.

White Zinnias, White dahlias, privet berrie leaves, privet berries, white astarantia, queen anne’s lace in a white milk glass compote

Yellow zinnias, olive leaves, white wax flowers, queen anne’s lace, orange aslepia, astilbe and grass on a white milk glass compote

This is one of our designs for an upcoming fall wedding, orange unique roses, scabiosa pods, orange ranunculus, fall foliage, orange spray roses, red hypericim berries and seeded eucalyptus on a footed black compote.

But guess what? I have some friends… actually some Chapel Designers who are crazy about compotes too. Isha Foss, from Isha Foss Events had the idea that we all shared our compote designs today. So here are some sites you should also visit for added inspiration today! Just click on the company names below to see some beautiful designs.

Real Chicago Wedding ~ Sara and Sergio at the Cultural Center

Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Last November we had the pleasure of working with Ali Phillips and her clients Sara and Sergio. They had their reception at the Cultural Center in Chicago. It is a beautiful Chicago venue with an old world charm.

Sara opted for a teardrop bridal bouquet or white roses, white cymbidiums, and white dendrobrium orchids. It was gorgeous!

The bridesmaids carried petite bouquets of burgundy dahlias, white majolica roses and burgundy cymbidium orchids with seeded eucalyptus.

Becky Hill from Becky Hill Photography took these amazing pictures! Sara looks stunning against a Chicago backdrop.

Sara and Sergio…. Congratulations on your Chicago wedding!

Bonnie and John ~ Chicago Wedding at the Loft on Lake

Friday, December 16th, 2011

We had the pleasure of working with Bonnie and John at the Loft on Lake. Michelle Durpetti from Michelle Durpetti Events had created an inspiration board for Bonnie and John with lots of bold colors, candles and peacock feathers. Bonnie, the bride, was not afraid to use bold colors. Her colors were white, teal, saffron orange, hot orange and touches of yellow.

Bonnie carried a gorgeous bouquet of white dahlias, yellow cymbidium orchids, unique orange roses, white peacock feathers along with flamed mango calla lilies and touches of seeded eucalyptus. Bonnie’s gown had a beautiful rhinestone buckle at the waist so we decided to add an adornment to her bouquet handle to match. There is nothing wrong with a little sparkle.

The bridesmaids wore teal dresses therefore we decided to do lots of unique orange roses, flamed mango calla lilies and seeded eucalyptus. The bouquets popped against the teal dresses.

John was such a fun groom so we decided he would be the perfect guy to wear a peacock feather within his boutonniere. He wore a saffron mokara orchid along with a peacock feather.

Bonnie and John wanted an intimate feel to their ceremony. MDE suggested a ceremony in the round to give guests a front row seat to the action and surround them during the ceremony.  Bonnie also had a vision of paper lanterns to soften the room and give it a warm glow in the evening. In addition, we draped the backdrop in white chiffon fabric to hide the built in kitchen (which was hiding the cake and sweet table) and also serve as a way to frame the ceremony with our two tall arrangements of james storei orchids.

In keeping with Bonnie and John’s love of bold colors we decided to add peacock feathers, hot orange asiatic lilies, white  dahlias and pincushion proteas along with yellow alstroemerias to the the orange unique roses.

Tipsycake provided their dainty and delicious cake

Congratulations Bonnie and John!

It was a pleasure to work with so many talented vendors: Michelle Durpetti Events, Tipsycake, Phil Stefani Catering and the Loft on Lake
