Flower I’m loving now….. Acacia

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014

It’s that time of the year when spring just cannot get to us fast enough… That time of the year when I’ve had enough of winter and I see to gravitate towards anything that is yellow and happy. Thankfully Acacia, wattle or most commonly known around fun flower circles as “mimosa” is blooming.  It’s one of those flowers that I wished  was available year round. Acacia is actually part of a wattle tree and comes in branches.

It has a wonderful fragrance and it blooms at this time of the year for a limited time only (darn!).  Acacia loves water, but can be used in floral foam. The trick with acacia is that when its not in used you must cover it with a plastic bag so it doesn’t dry out….at least when it’s in the cooler!

Todd and Kyle’s Wedding at Public Chicago

Monday, March 10th, 2014

Today we feature Todd and Kyle’s wedding at Villa D’Citta and a reception at Public Chicago. LOLA Event Productions brought us a masculine concept with lots of succulents, greenery and orchids. We couldn’t wait to design this wedding, knowing that Studio Starling would be there to capture all the details; we were 100% certain that we wanted to be part of this vendor collaboration. The ceremony was to take place at Villa D’ Cita’s outdoor courtyard perfect for an intimate wedding ceremony.

We set a ceremony structure of succulents, pincushions, airplants, roses, bells of ireland and ruscus to frame the grooms while they exchanged vows.

We hung moss balls with accents of english ivy and phalaenopsis orchids, these were later used at the reception tables.

Black and White Wedding at the Ivy Room in Chicago

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

We had the pleasure of working with Kristin and Aaron at The Ivy Room last September. Although the cool air of fall was  in full swing the courtyard walls at The Ivy Room were still holding on to the the end of summer months with lots of green ivy. The couple opted for a classic wedding of white flowers, black vessels, mercury glass, black chandeliers over the dance floor, pin spotting their floral arrangements (which makes a huge difference!), accents of heirloom pumpkins and lots of candles.
